Changing The Angle: Yin Yoga With Props

WHAT TO EXPECT
In this 3 hour yin yoga workshop we will be using a variety of props, including belts, blocks and bolsters, to support the body and enable full relaxation (all equipment will be provided). By using these supports we can change the angle of the pose to alter the feel and to allow for more softening within the poses; this may deepen the access to the yin tissues of the body and also allow us to experience the new sensations that arise from these poses.
We will prepare with a variety of pranayama/breathing techniques for around 20 - 30 minutes to sooth the nervous system and calm the mind before moving into a yin sequence of approximately 2 hours. We will complete the practice with a 25 minute Yoga Nidra/Yogic Sleep which can bring about a profound sense of peace and relaxation.
Yin Yoga is a passive floor based practice that works on the body, mind and emotions. It helps fascial release and works on the colder harder tissues of the body. The longer holds (3-5 minutes) facilitate deep changes to the tissues and also work on the meridians (energy channels as in TCM) by creating acupressure in the body, this may create an emotional release. The mind benefits from the mindful meditative approach to the practice.
